We're in this month's (December 2011) Bible Society Magazine, 'The Sower'.  Note: the editor ironically was quite liberal with their paraphrasing....

We recently wrote to David Cameron, UK Prime Minister, about his King James Bible speech (click here to read) to encourage them to open a Bible Museum in the UK, and also to Israeli PM, Benjamin Netanyahu, to congratulate them on their commitment to build a Bible Museum in Jerusalem.  We offered to assist both in this cause!

ballarat-goldfields-probusA busy week here at the Bible Museum, with Ballarat Goldfields Probus club visiting us on Wednesday 16th of November.  Yes, we were supposed to be at Westminster Abbey for the King James Bible 400th anniversary celebrations on this date, but unfortunately they didn't send the fare along with the invites...  But we were delighted to have the Probus Club instead, and have had very positive feedback.

The Bible museum had it’s busiest day ever on Saturday (12th November), during our Open Day for the Festival of St Arnaud Market Day. Over 100 visitors browsed the Museum and Garden. We also had live music from Pip 'n Mell, Gluten Free food from Nancy at Scrumlicious, a Sausage Sizzle & Cappuccinos!  We gratefully thank our volunteers from Norwood, Melbourne, for their help, and the Festival of St Arnaud for a wonderful weekend.

The ‘town crier’ from Avoca put in an appearance, with the Codex Sinaiticus facsimile in the foreground. Click on the photos below to enlarge.

We had a display at the Bendigo 'King James Bible 400th Anniversary' celebration, organised by Heather and Brian Stanmore and the Bible Society.  It was a great afternoon, with the Bendigo Brass Band adding to the atmosphere in the beautiful Bendigo Town Hall.

Bible-Society-ExhibitionEllen & Jean attended the Bible Society's 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible forum and exhibition opening this weekend (2nd Oct).   The exhibition is well worth a visit, at Melbourne City Library, Flinders Lane, Melbourne.   At the forum we were introduced to Lord Salisbury of the King James Bible Trust in the UK. He has the only known original 1611 King James Bible, as there were only 27 in the 1st edition printing and all the others have been lost!

Photo on the left is the 1611 King James Bible (click on photo to enlarge). Note the list of books in the Old Testament. There was a printers error, with 'Corinthians' being in the Old Testament instead of Chronicles!

Heather at Bendigo Library

ThereButterfly are not many butterflys left (as of April 2011) due to the end of the warm weather.  We will be hatching more in Spring.

We currently have live butterflys (Monarch/Wanderers) at the Museum and soon expect Orchard Swallowtail's to hatch too!

Fortunately the Bible Museum and most of St Arnaud were not inundated in the disastrous floods of January 2011.  We thank God for this and pray that those affected in the nearby towns will make a full recovery.
