Orthodox priest
speaks for double-headed eagles on Kremlin towers and renaming of
Kropotkinskaya metro station
The stars shouldn't crown the towers of the Moscow Kremlin,
the Russian Orthodox Church believes.
"It would be right to bring back centuries-old
double-headed eagles back to the Kremlin towers," acting Church and
society secretary of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church
Relations Fr. Georgy Ryabykh has told an Interfax-Religion correspondent.
He also believes that when activists urge to rename
Voikovskaya metro station, which bears the name of Nicholas II executioner,
they can also raise the question of renaming Kropotkinskaya as well.
"I don't think that a founder of anarchism Kropotkin
will be a good example for the new generation," Fr. Georgy believes.
Besides, the Russian Church representative thinks,
"historical justice should triumph through returning old names to cities,
streets and squares."
"I'd like to stress - it is not renaming, it is
returning back. If our forefathers gave certain names to their creations, we
should respect their choice and it seems historically justified to return back
the heritage once grabbed from our people," the priest said.
